Frank McCourt (1930–2009) was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Irish immigrant parents, grew up in Limerick, Ireland, and returned to America in 1949. For thirty years he taught in New York City high schools. His first book, Angela’s Ashes, won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Award. In 2006, he won the prestigious Ellis Island Family Heritage Award for Exemplary Service in the Field of the Arts and the United Federation of Teachers John Dewey Award for Excellence in Education.

Wir haben dieses Buch im Rahmen des Englischunterrichts gelesen und ich persönlich finde es unbedingt lesenswert, besonderes für Studierende der Sprache. Es reist mit, ist verständlich geschrieben und öffnet den Horizont für andere Welten, hier das Irland (und die USA) der Dreißiger und Vierziger. Ich werde mich auch am Nachfolger 'Tis versuchen.
Ein tolles Buch mit einer spannenden und bewegenden Geschichte! Ein absoluter Klassiker, hatte es in einem Ferienhaus gesehen und dort angefangen zu lesen. Musste es mir nach der Rückkehr sofort bestellen.
Das Buch am sehr pünktlich und ordentlich verpackt in einen sehr guten Zustand hier an. Der Inhalt ist authentisch erzählt und basiert auf historische Begebenheiten Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts und beschreibt die Armut und das Leben der Familie McCourt in Irland.
Ich habe mir das Buch gekauft, da wir in der Schule(8. Klasse Gymnasium) etwas Englisches lesen sollten. Die Geschichte ist sehr gut geeignet und mitreißend. Ich finde man versteht alles, da das verwendete Englisch eher einfach ist. Sehr zum Empfehlen.
Sehr gut zu lesen, "Zwischentöne" auf einzelne Gesellschaftsteile gut gelungen.Aus der Entwicklung eines jungen Menschen heraus gesehen, einfach super!Kann ich all denjenigen empfehlen, die gerne ein Buch in englisch lesen wollen und die schwierige Zeit in Irland verstehen möchten.
Ich habe das Buch gekannt und wollte nur mein Englisch verbessern, deswegen habe ich es gekauft. Das war eigentlich mein erstes Audiobuch und ich muss feststellen, dass ich voellig zufrieden bin. Das Buch ist von dem Schriftsteller persoenlich gelesen (und ab und zu gesungen), was das Ganze noch viel interessanter macht. Schade nur, dass es ein bisschen gekuerzt worden ist. Aber insgesamt bin ich mit dem Einkauf sehr zufrieden.
The book is perfect for school issues. I have read the original version as well and of couse prefered it to the short one. But as there is unusual/slang vocabulary in it, it is not appropriate for learners.We read it in 12th class and I could see how many people sruggled even with the short version. (evening class - lots of people haven't had English in years) But I'd still read it again because it's one of the most interesting books I've ever read in school (or even my life).Recommendable!!!
